  Biography of Dr Tazi Abdelhadi  
 

 

·      Abdelhadi Tazi is born in Fez (Morocco) the 15th of June 1921/ 7 Shawal 1339 and died in Rabat the 2nd of April 2015/12 Jumada 2, 1436.

·      Since his-young age, he has enrolled in the Nationalist Movement, and has experienced exile and prison in 1936, in 1938 and in 1944 when claiming independence.

·      After his primary and secondary education in Fez, he graduated with distinction from the university of al Qarawiyyine in  Fez, earned the High Diploma (Alamiya) in Theological Studies in 1947/1366. Soon after, he was appointed to teach in this same University standing from the 1st of May 1948.

·      Graduated in 1953 from the Institute of High Moroccan Studies, and earned a diploma in French language (Brevet).

·      Pursuant to the Independence of the country, he was appointed Director of the Cultural Section in the Ministry of National Education in Rabat, October 1957.

·      Graduated with distinction (28 February 1963) from Mohammed V University. He earned higher education Diploma  in history (This was the first degree ever granted then by the University)

·      English proficiency certificate from the language institute of Baghdad in 1966.

·      PhD in arts from the University of Alexandria,”Ist honorary distinction”  in 1971

·      Since early youth (Ramadan 1354/ December 1935)  he began to write .During his life, he published hundreds of articles and  essays (more than 700) ;he  translated many papers and research works from English and French into Arabic.

·      He authored a great number of books (see list of publications).

·      He served as professor and lecturer in several higher education institutes, colleges and universities in Morocco and other parts of the world. His subjects of interests are well outlined in his authored publications…

·      Director of the Higher institute for Scientific Research in Rabat, 1974-1994

·      He trained a large number of university students in Morocco and overseas.

·      Appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom to the Morocco to the Republic of Iraq, on 13/5/1963, then Ambassador in Libya (4 June 1967), then a second time in Baghdad (20 September 1968) where he was in charge of the embassy to the United Arab Emirates, Ambassador of Morocco to the Islamic Republic of Iran (28 April 1979) before serving as advisor in charge of mission at the Royal Cabinet…

·      Attended many conferences and congresses, covering a wide range of topics, cultural, social to political, and participated in summit conferences.

·      Chairman and Founding member of Moroccan Diplomatic Club, 1990.

·      Chairman (starting from 1992), of the Sixth International Conference of Geographical Names Standardization, new York.

·      Chairman Of Ibn Battuta Club for Development and Cultural Dialogue. 2004.

·       He took more than 1348 trips around the World. Including some 333 official Mission…

·      Member of the Iraqi Scientific Academy since 1966 – the Arabic Language Academy in Cairo since 1976 – the Arab-Argentina Institute since 1978 – the Ahl Albayt Academy and the Arabic Language Academy of Jordan since 1980 the Kingdom of Morocco’s Academy Constituting Committee and member of that Academy since April 1980 –the Arabic Language Academy of Damascus in 1986 – the institute of Islamic Heritage, (London, 1991) – the Egyptian Science Academy, 1996.

·      Member of the Moroccan Committee for Military History 1996

·      Member of many other regional and international associations, societies and forums, including Italian Institute of Oriental Studies, Rome 2004, Shield of the General Union of Arab Archeologists and Historians. Cairo, member of the Italian Institute for African and Oriental Studies, 2006, Honorary Chairman of Ibn Battuta Centre for Research, Studies and Translation. Beijing (China), Member of the Scientific Council for the Historical Arabic Dictionary Academy, on proposal of the Union of Arab Dictionaries, 2008

·      Made donation of his scientific library (7000) to the Al-Qarawiyine University Library.

·      Counselor in Disneyland (Florida-USA) for the construction of the Moroccan pavilion - 1978
